With farming accounting for 10% of total EU GHG emissions (much more if we count emissions embedded in imported products and land-use change) and a steady increase in EU agricultural emissions since 2012, there is no doubt that climate action is needed in European agriculture if the EU is to achieve climate-neutrality by 2050.
The recent Farm to Fork strategy is the EU's new flagship framework for food systems and is presented as an important tool to reach the climate goals of the European Green Deal. At the same time, the National Energy and Climate Plans handed in by each Member State during the first half of this year showed little to no commitment to reduce emissions from agriculture.
So how can agricultural emissions be reduced? And how do existing good practices and broader solutions fit with the hilly EU policy landscape? After the webinar, we will hopefully have a better idea about possible answers to these questions.
