NEFA Agricultural Centers provide a direct, innovative and successful response to an array of modern-day agricultural challenges. We are a non-profit that conserves working farmland while growing a new generation of farmers. We rescue farms in transition and in danger of becoming forever non-farms and turn them into thriving agricultural centers that will remain farms forever. As part of the process, farmers attain security, equity and legacy, things that sustain individuals, families and communities. NEFA’s work will produce benefits that reverberate in both the rural communities in which the Centers are located and the more populated surrounding areas that have access to organic and humanely produced farm products. While our primary focus is the Northeast, the innovative Agricultural Center model can also lead the way in reforming the way we do agriculture more broadly in the country.
Northeast Farm Access (NEFA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking a Director of Development to expand development and fundraising activities to support our work preserving and developing sustainable farmland. NEFA has recently completed its legal formation and is now commencing our capitalization. We will build on the work of our predecessor organization’s six years developing Agricultural Centers in New York, New Hampshire and Maine. The Ag Center model transitions old farms by engaging multiple farmer-lessees who bring sustainable practices to raise food, protect the environment, and conserve and restore the earth and its soils. There are currently five Ag Centers, with a sixth coming soon. Each supports multiple, diverse farm operations to grow the next generation of farmers in the region.
We are currently seeking funding for this position. Anticipating some success, the Director of Development position may potentially begin immediately. Work is primarily remote, with some travel in the northeast required as part of fundraising efforts. The candidate will join a team led by the president to fundraise and envision future direction. They will work closely with NEFA’s Board of Directors and NEFA’s loan fund, Northeast Farm Capital, to oversee a capital fund while creating social impact investment and donation opportunities. The candidate will increase fundraising revenue through both investor and donor planning and implementation, as well as pursue private and public grant opportunities.
